Erykah Badu knows how to evolve as a musician and staying aware of the hottest sounds and artists. After setting the web on fire with over 2 million plays of her “Hotline Bling (Remix),” which is now been dubbed “Cel U Lar Device” the “6 God,” aka Drake, decided to catch up with his good friend and return the favor on one of two new tracks off Erykah’s new project, But You Cain’t Use My Phone.
Eight tracks into the project, Drizzy resurfaces for Erykah’s “Medley: What’s Yo Phone Number/Telephone (Ghost of Screw Mix).” Never losing sight of her roots and the hip-hop Texas sounds, the “Analog Girl In A Digital World” adds to her J. Dilla tribute song, “Telephone,” off of her 2008 album New Amerykah, Pt. 1.
Erykah Badu probably isn’t concerned with making hits at this point in her career, but this allows her to be as creative as she wants to be.
During a private mixtape listening session, she shared that the mixtape was recorded, mixed and mastered by Zach Witness in a span of 11 days at her Dallas home. Also, all guest appearances on the project were “recorded in person.”
Above all, But You Cain’t Use My Phone was A&R’d by her 18 year-old son, Seven.
Listen to the entire project and hit up Erykah Badu directly at her secret phone number, which digits can be found on the cover art for “Hotline Bling (Remix),” “Phone Down” and But You Cain’t Use My Phone.
