Come join the esteemed gentlemen of Sigma Delta Tau Legal Fraternity, Inc, for a night of dinner, dancing and fund raising as we honor the District of Columbia’s first ever elected Attorney General, Karl A. Racine, at our 84th Annual Dinner Dance and Silent Auction.
A wine reception will begin at 5:30 pm with dinner and dancing to follow. Live music will be provided by Blu Neffu, and throughout the evening there will also be a silent auction for fabulous gifts.
The Sigma Delta Tau Legal Fraternity, Inc. is the oldest, continuously existing African-American legal fraternity in the United States and was founded on November 17, 1934, by Nathaniel A. Dobbins, J. H. Kirkland Renfro, W. Harold Flowers, Leon A. Jones, and Benjamin F. Hailstork, Jr.
Currently, the fraternity is comprised of judges, lawyers, legal scholars, and other legal professionals all dedicated to forward the purpose of the fraternity: to encourage and promote excellence in the study, practice and judicial processes of the law.
In 1986, the fraternity’s Alpha Alpha Chapter established the H. Carl Moultrie I Scholarship in memory of Sigma Delta Tau Legal Fraternity, Inc. Brother and first African-American Chief Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, H. Carl Moultrie I. Each year, the Alpha Alpha Chapter presents to a first or second-year law school student who demonstrates scholarship and a commitment to public service, the H. Carl Moultrie I Scholarship. Proceeds from the Dinner Dance will be used to fund the H. Carl Moultrie I Scholarship.
