Spotlighting the Famous Impressionist and Living Legend Dr. Sylvia Traymore Morrison

When’s the last time you saw Wendy Williams, Diana Ross, Mo’Nique, Whoopi Goldberg, Fantasia, Melania Trump, Eryka Badu and First Lady Michelle Obama in one evening’s performance? Well, all you need to do is catch the Sylvia Traymore Morrison Show the next time she’s in town. Originally from Washington, DC, Sylvia is the first African American Female Impressionist in the country. One of the first solo artists to tour and open for Whitney Houston in over 20 major U.S. cities, Morrison’s career in Hollywood is legendary, even if not well known.  The iconic Redd Fox recognized her talent early on and signed her to her first management deal.

When heavyweight boxing was at its zenith and Muhammad Ali was in his prime, Sylvia was asked to host a Roast of the Champ at the legendary Apollo Theater, replacing Richard Pryor. The hosting job was so prolific and the imitation of the World Heavyweight Champion was so spot-on that he looked at her in amazement and said, “You’re doin’ me? A woman doin’ me? That’s awesome!”As a result of that roast, Sylvia was offered a position as an associate-writer for one of America’s longest-running TV shows, Saturday Night Live. She is one of few African American Women offered that position.
The list of people she has worked with is amazing.  It includes Jay Leno, David Letterman, Robin Williams, Jerry Seinfeld, Garrett Morris, Dick Gregory, Rosie O’Donnell, Gladys Knight, Chaka Kahn, Tommy Davidson, The Temptations, Jeffrey Osborne, The Four Tops, Jennifer Holiday, Stephanie Mills, Kevin Anthony, Chris Thomas, Tony Woods, Andy Evans, Robyn Montague, Kevin Lee, Elaine Boosler, David Copperfield, Lawanda Page, Shuckey Duckey, Cocoa Brown, actually too many to name.
Sylvia’s first book was based on her true story, entitled “Almost There, Almost, The Many Faces of Sylvia Traymore Morrison.” 90% of readers say they read it in less than 2 days and COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. It reads like a roller coaster ride filled with thrills and chills.  The book was selected by the American University’s Public Relations Department as a project for the senior class.  It is rare that a book is selected in that capacity.
The Livin’ On Laughter Gospel Comedy Association presented Sylvia with the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to entertainment industry. The proud mother of two daughters, Jasmin and Michelle,  performs throughout the country, where she is being honored for her many contributions to the industry, while also advocating Domestic Violence, HIV/AIDS and Cancer Awareness.
Dr. Sylvia Traymore Morrison, D.H.L., whose candidacy for an Honorary Doctorate Degree was honored, permitted, conferred and presented from the Trustees and Board Members of the Breakthrough Bible College and Theological Seminary at graduation on July 23, 2016.
Sylvia’s dedication, history and love generated to humanity and the arts is SIMPLY INCREDIBLE.

April 2018, Ben’s Chili Bowl on U Street in Washington honored Sylvia with her picture on their Wall of Fame which truly meant so much to her, since she grew up eating their awesome half smokes over 40 years ago!

Sylvia also has a new book. This inspirational book is a faith-enriching tale of love, tragedy, hope, and redemption. Prepare to catch a glimpse of yourself in characters that ask many of the same questions you have asked about God, life, and life after death.

As you explore the marvels of Heaven along with new arrival, Carlie, and discover how God uses a bean of sugar to answer prayers and manifest miracles, you will be reminded that He not only hears our prayers, but has unique ways of responding to them.
