With 2018 coming to a close, Vancouver duo The Funk Hunters have much to celebrate. 2018 saw the pair win Electronic/Dance Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards, reach number 1 on the Billboard Dance Club Chart with an official remix of U2’s “Love Is Bigger Than Anything In Its Way,” and release their debut full-length artist album TYPECAST in March. Still reveling in the acclaimed debut album, The Funk Hunters are continuing the journey by inviting New York-based producer Jenaux to join the party with a brand new remix of the album’s leadoff cut “Hands Up (Raise Your Fist) Ft. Leo Napier.”
Already having recruited jackLNDN, K Theory, Kotek, and more for their own spins on TYPECAST singles, Jenaux puts a refreshing, mellow spin on future funk single “Hands Up.” Highlighting vocalist Leo Napier’s soul-fueled top-line, Jenaux strips back the original’s anthemic production style in favor of piano chords, soothing melodies, and a filtered bassline to transform the tune into a mesmerizing number that works equally well as an easy-listening favorite or a danceable club hit. If unfamiliar with Jenaux before now, the producer and DJ has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in EDM including Porter Robinson, Zedd, Laidback Luke, Knife Party and many more. In addition to being named a resident DJ from NYC hotspots, Pacha and Finale, Jenaux has also performed at a host of notable venues including New York’s Webster Hall and Roseland Ballroom, Boston’s Prime, and DayGlow Festival.
Up next for The Funk Hunters, the duo will continue to reveal plans for their forthcoming TYPECAST remix album, including a forthcoming BUKU remix due in December 2018. The original TYPECAST LP features collaborations from Leo Napier (GRiZ / Gramatik), DiRTY RADiO, LIINKS, Paul Brenning, Dynamite MC, and Steven Beddall. The Funk Hunters have cultivated an unmistakable signature sound by creating forward-thinking electronic music that is influenced by old school soul, funk and hip-hop. This sound has awarded the pair over 600 performances in 16 countries, including major festivals such as Coachella, Burning Man, Osheaga, Shambhala, and Electric Forest. Their music has also amassed over 10 million track streams across their catalogue of remixes and collaborations, including official remixes for Imagine Dragons, Selena Gomez, Big Gigantic, Gramatik, and now U2.
