Wayne Linsey’s Howard Homecoming Concert with Special Guests, Alana Lynne, SuNWhoa Love and Lynne Fiddmont will be LIVE at Bethesda Blues & Jazz Friday, October 20th!

Wayne Linsey is excited to be back for Howard’s Homecoming. The Wayne Linsey trio opened up the Homecoming show in 1980 for Cherylynn & Donald Byrd. Wayne Linsey was honored as one of 50 outstanding HU alumni in 2014.

WAYNE LINSEY! Musician, producer, arranger, songwriter and TV personality. Wayne has worked on stage and in the studio with legendary artists such as Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Earth Wind and Fire, Babyface, Diana Ross, Chaka Khan, Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, Yolanda Adams, The Jackson’s  and many more! As a multi-talented instrumentalist, Wayne is best known for keyboards, but plays guitar, bass and drums as well.  Wayne is no stranger to the jazz genre.  He was a pioneer in what is now known as “smooth jazz”, having written & produced for saxophonist George Howard in the mid 80’s, including George’s biggest hit “No No” & the title cut “A Nice Place to Be”. Wayne has also written & produced for guitarist Paul Jackson Jr..  He wrote for & recorded with the legendary Miles Davis, and recorded with jazz greats , Stanley Clarke, Gerald Albright, Nancy Wilson, Norman Brown, Jonathan Butler, & Marcus Miller to name a few.  He’s performed with fellow keyboardists Billy Preston, Ray Charles & Herbie Hancock & is also the man who gave his friend the name, “Boney James”.  Wayne has spent much of his career on TV, having performed on all the major awards shows from “BET Gospel” to “The Grammys”.  Wayne was also a member of Wayne Brady’s variety & talk show house bands.

Most recently Wayne was a member of the very last “Tonight Show Band with Jay Leno” where his comedic skills were recognized by Jay, leading to an opportunity to be featured in numerous skits on the show. Wayne was the principal pianist on “American Idol” and is an original member of “The Rickey Minor band”.  Some of you might know Wayne as “Ziggy”, the name that was popularized when Wayne joined “Maze featuring Frankie Beverly” in 1984. Wayne has appeared on every Maze record since “Can’t Stop the Love”, including his signature flute intro & solo on “Can’t Get Over You”.

As an artist, Wayne’s debut album “Perfect Love”, was released in 1991 on Virgin Records under the group name “Linsey” with, then wife, Lynne Fiddmont. His solo album, “A Song Without Words”, on Headrok Records, his own label, was released in 2009 & his latest CD, “Wayne Linsey presents….. Alana was born and raised in Los Angeles and began performing very early in her life. Alana was fortunate enough to land vocal placements in various feature films and syndicated national commercials.  She has also been blessed with a unique & impressive group of mentors.  Alana received instruction in tap, ballet, hip hop, and modern jazz under the leadership of Debbie Allen. She’s also received countless hours of professional development from sought after vocalist and Mother, Lynne Fiddmont, and renowned musical maestro and Father, Wayne Linsey.  After High school, Alana ventured off to D.C’s Legendary Howard University as a Jazz Studies Voice Major.  Alana has established a fast growing resume that includes BGV’s for Foreigner, Nate Ruess, Emi Secrest, Earth, Wind & Fire, Dreamgirls w/ Artscentric and many others. Alana is proud to be a Howard alum.

SuNWhoa Love, Black Samurai G

Living a life devoted to making God famous, SuNWhoa (SuN-Woe) Love is a warrior for Christ. Dubbed “Black Samurai G” by the Almighty (samurai = servant of the Lord), this Southern California-based rapper/singer, songwriter, producer, and entrepreneur infuses new life into the Hip Hop and Gospel genres with his bars, bold style, and creative vision.

SuNWhoa, who’s been blessing the stage for over 10 years, moves the crowd with lyrical pyrotechnics matched by his dynamic energy and a humility rooted in his commitment to God and honest love for people.

He released a solo mixtape, 4:00 AM (Let There Be Light) and an independent solo album, Kingdom Influence in 2012, then spent the next 4 years refining his craft and creating for 2 new albums:  Black Samurai Music (2017) and Like Father, Like SuN (scheduled for late 2017).

SuNWhoa also worked on several other music projects during this time, including P4CM’s first cypher at Rhetoric 2016, APU’s Night of Champions Event, and appearances on P4CM’s The Lyricists, 4 appearances on TBN’s JUCETV, and countless other live shows.

His 2017 album, Black Samurai Music, a collaboration between him and producer DavD Beats, knocked out the Gospel Rap and Kingdom Hip Hop worlds. (you can download a copy here)!

Ever the visionary dreamer and doer, SuNWhoa Love also founded and runs Build Apparel Co., is a youth minister at Community Bible Church, is an APU graduate (BS, ’16), wrote and produced the short My Beloved (2016), and has shared the gospel through music in Japan (2014, 2015) and then in Peru with Back to Basics (2016).

Without a doubt, SuNWhoa Love is a rising true SuN whose servant-warrior commitment to spiritual, creative, and personal excellence will continue to move us, challenge us, and bring God glory for ages to come!

Her television appearances include the Grammy Awards, BET Awards, MTV Awards, CMA Awards, UNCF Awards, Billboard Awards, Johnny Carson Show, Jay Leno Show, Arsenio Hall Show, Regis and Kelly, David Letterman, MTV Unplugged, Good Morning America, Motown Live, Ellen Degeneres, and Live at the White House honoring Stevie Wonder with President Barack Obama and The Superbowl 1999. As an artist, her first appearance was as part of Virgin Records AC duo Linsey with then husband Wayne Linsey. Perfect Love was the release and even now, 20 years later, it is still considered a Quiet Storm classic among music lovers. Lynne has also released 3 solo CDs as an independent artist/producer. Flow, Lady, Spirit of Christmas. They feature some of her own compositions as well as some classics performed by some of the great artist of our time, many of whom she’s had the privilege of working with through the years. She was also happy to have some of her music chosen to be the backdrop of a national lexus commercial, and one of her originals was featured in an AFBB, and HBO short film competition winner, MUTED.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Lynne is a graduate of Boston University with a BS in PR.
She also attended Drake University and Berklee School of Music in Boston, MA.
